Information Communication Technician Pro Apprenticeships in Birmingham

We deliver the Information Communication Technician Pro apprenticeship in Birmingham, supporting learners and employers across the city and the wider West Midlands.

Birmingham’s scale and diversity mean there is consistent demand for Technology roles across a wide range of organisations and working environments. From city-centre employers in areas such as Digbeth and the Jewellery Quarter, to larger organisations across Edgbaston, Solihull and surrounding towns, many businesses rely on Technology apprentices to support day-to-day operations and longer-term business needs.

The Information Communication Technician Pro apprenticeship is well suited to Birmingham employers with Technology teams, growing capability requirements or multi-site operations, where apprentices can gain practical, role-relevant experience and apply their learning directly in the workplace.

We also regularly support apprentices living in nearby areas including Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich and Dudley, making Birmingham a practical and accessible hub for learners across the region.

Delivery is designed around employment rather than location. Apprentices in Birmingham complete structured learning through a blend of remote teaching and workplace-based support, meeting the 20% off-the-job requirement without the need for regular travel to a training centre.

If you’re based in Birmingham or the surrounding area and want to start or support a Information Communication Technician Pro apprenticeship, we can explain how delivery works locally and what the next steps look like.

Overview

This apprenticeship is a complete end-to-end pathway into an IT career, designed to take learners from core digital foundations through to full technician competence in one structured programme.

Over 20 months, apprentices first build essential knowledge in hardware, networking, operating systems, and digital technologies. As confidence grows, they progress into more advanced technician skills, including IT support, infrastructure, connectivity, security awareness, and problem-solving in real workplace environments.

The programme is ideal for individuals who are new to IT or at the early stages of their career, providing a supported, logical progression rather than expecting prior technical experience. Learning is applied directly in the workplace, ensuring apprentices develop the behaviours, professionalism, and technical capability employers value.

By the end of the programme, apprentices are job-ready IT technicians, equipped with practical experience, recognised qualifications, and the confidence to progress into roles such as IT Support Technician, Digital Technician, Network Support, or onward progression into higher-level apprenticeships.

This is not just training, it’s a clear route into sustainable employment in the digital sector.

What You'll Learn

This Level 2 to Level 3 IT apprenticeship pathway is designed to take learners from entry-level digital skills through to a fully competent IT support technician role. The programme begins with a Level 2 IT foundation apprenticeship, ideal for beginners with little or no prior experience, before progressing seamlessly into the Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship.

Across the full programme, apprentices will develop practical, job-ready skills including:

  • Core IT support and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Hardware, network and digital infrastructure fundamentals
  • Supporting users through first-line and second-line technical issues
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining IT systems
  • Understanding cybersecurity basics and safe digital working practices
  • Delivering customer-focused IT support in real workplace environments
  • Building professional behaviours, communication skills and teamwork

This structured IT apprenticeship pathway ensures learners gain both technical capability and workplace confidence, preparing them for long-term careers in IT, digital infrastructure and technical support roles.

Key skills you’ll develop

Assessment & EPA

Assessment is embedded throughout this IT apprenticeship, combining on-the-job learning, tutor support and formal evaluation. During the Level 2 IT apprenticeship, learners are assessed on their ability to apply core digital and infrastructure skills in a real working environment.

As learners progress to the Level 3 IT support apprenticeship, assessment focuses on demonstrating occupational competence through:

  • A structured portfolio of evidence
  • Practical workplace tasks aligned to IT support roles
  • Demonstration of professional behaviours and problem-solving skills

The programme concludes with a formal End-Point Assessment (EPA), which independently confirms that the apprentice meets the national standard for an Information Communications Technician. Successful completion results in a nationally recognised Level 3 IT apprenticeship qualification, valued by employers across the UK.

Career Progression

Completing this IT apprenticeship pathway opens the door to a wide range of roles within the digital and technology sector. Graduates are well-prepared for positions such as:

  • IT Support Technician
  • First-Line or Second-Line Support Analyst
  • Network Support Technician
  • Digital Infrastructure Technician
  • Technical Support Specialist

From here, learners can progress into higher-level IT apprenticeships, specialist technical roles, or supervisory positions within IT and digital teams. This programme provides a strong foundation for long-term career growth in one of the UK’s fastest-growing industries.
