Overview

The Level 3 Digital Support Technician apprenticeship, delivered through the Digital Applications Technician pathway, is designed for people starting or re-starting a digital career. Solveway delivers this programme with an AI-first approach, so apprentices do not just learn traditional digital workplace skills. They learn how to use AI tools confidently, responsibly and productively in real business settings.

Over twelve months, apprentices build practical experience in digital applications, communication, support, cybersecurity, data handling and responsible AI use. They work with tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot from the beginning, while building a portfolio based on genuine workplace activity rather than made-up classroom tasks.

Alongside the apprenticeship, learners also complete recognised vendor certifications from major technology providers, helping them build a stronger CV, stronger LinkedIn profile and a clearer route into more advanced digital or AI-focused roles.

What You'll Learn

This programme is built around five core areas that develop digital confidence, practical AI capability and real workplace value.

  • Digital foundations and AI literacy: Understand how modern AI works, how to question AI output, and how to use tools critically rather than blindly.
  • Productivity and digital applications: Use Microsoft Copilot, Power Automate and other digital workplace tools to improve efficiency and support everyday business tasks.
  • Communication, coaching and support: Learn how to explain digital tools clearly, support colleagues, diagnose problems and become a confident digital champion in the workplace.
  • Security, risk and professional practice: Build understanding of cybersecurity, GDPR, responsible AI use, risk awareness and good professional judgement.
  • Portfolio, project and progression preparation: Develop the evidence, confidence and presentation skills needed for end-point assessment and future progression.

Assessment & EPA

Assessment takes place through an end-point assessment after the taught programme is complete.

The EPA has two main parts:

  • Project Report, Presentation and Q&A: The apprentice completes a workplace project, writes a report based on that activity, presents it, and answers questions about what they did and why.
  • Professional Discussion supported by portfolio: The apprentice takes part in a structured discussion with an independent assessor, using their portfolio as evidence of the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed during the programme.

The end-point assessment is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Solveway prepares apprentices throughout the programme with portfolio-building support, report-writing guidance, presentation practice and mock assessment activity.

Career Progression

This apprenticeship is a strong first step into a modern digital career.

Typical progression routes can include:

  • Digital Support Technician
  • Digital Applications Technician
  • Junior Automation Support role
  • Digital Operations Support
  • Workplace Technology Support
  • Digital Champion or super-user roles within business teams

For learners who complete the programme with a strong portfolio and the right level of readiness, there is also a natural progression route into Solveway’s Level 4 AI apprenticeship, which builds on the Level 3 foundations without repeating them.

For Employers

This programme helps employers build junior talent with the digital and AI capability modern workplaces increasingly need.

What employers get:

  • a junior team member who can use digital tools and AI more effectively from the outset
  • improved productivity through better use of Microsoft 365, automation and digital workflows
  • support for colleagues adopting new tools and ways of working
  • stronger awareness of cybersecurity, data handling and responsible AI use
  • recognised training with real workplace application, not disconnected theory
  • a clear development pathway for entry-level staff with long-term potential

This works especially well for employers who want to grow digital capability internally rather than rely entirely on external support.
