The Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship (ST0118) is for people who want to turn data into clear answers that help organisations make better decisions. It goes far beyond spreadsheets you’ll learn how to collect, clean and analyse data properly, then communicate insights in a way that drives real action.

• Data fundamentals and governance: understanding data types, quality, security, and how to work responsibly with sensitive information.
• SQL for data extraction: querying databases, joining tables, and pulling accurate information directly from business systems.
• Data cleaning and automation: using tools and scripts to reduce manual work and make reporting repeatable and reliable.
• Programming for analysis (Python or R): working with larger datasets, automating tasks, and performing deeper analysis than spreadsheets allow.
• Data visualisation and storytelling: building dashboards in tools like Power BI (or similar) and presenting insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Statistics and modelling: identifying trends, testing assumptions, and using forecasting techniques to support planning.
• AI and machine learning basics: understanding where AI can support analysis (and how to use it safely and sensibly).

Assessment is designed to show the apprentice can deliver real value in the workplace.

During the programme, apprentices build a portfolio of evidence from real tasks and projects. When the employer and training provider agree the apprentice is consistently performing at the required level, they move through Gateway (including confirmation of English and maths where required).

The End-Point Assessment (EPA) is typically completed with an independent assessor and usually includes:

• A work-based project: a substantial piece of analysis that tackles a genuine business need, producing findings and recommendations.
• Presentation and questioning: explaining the project and decisions clearly, then responding to assessor questions.
• Professional discussion: a structured conversation based on the portfolio, covering tools, approach, ethics, and impact.

This proves the apprentice can analyse, communicate, and influence decisions professionally.

Completing the Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship opens doors to a wide range of roles across the data and digital space. Common next steps include:
