Role Overview

We are seeking a confident and proactive Business Development Executive to support our apprenticeship engagement team by contacting employers, qualifying opportunities, and booking high-quality appointments with decision makers. This role is all about connecting with businesses, navigating gatekeepers, and helping employers understand how apprenticeships can support their workforce development. You will play a key part in growing employer partnerships and supporting more learners into high-quality apprenticeship roles.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll focus on generating employer engagement, identifying apprenticeship opportunities, and supporting the wider business development process. Your responsibilities include:

  • Making a high volume of outbound calls to employers to identify interest in apprenticeships and workforce development.
  • Confidently navigating gatekeepers to reach decision makers such as hiring managers, business owners and HR leads.
  • Promoting the benefits of apprenticeships and explaining how they address skills gaps, recruitment needs and staff development.
  • Qualifying employers against set criteria, including role suitability and workplace readiness.
  • Booking face-to-face or virtual appointments for the business development team, meeting weekly and monthly targets.
  • Using structured questioning to understand employer needs and gather key details for the sales team.
  • Accurately logging calls, outcomes and next actions in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Following up on warm leads, campaign responses and previous enquiries to maximise conversion.
  • Feeding back employer trends, objections and common queries to internal teams to support improvements.
  • Re-engaging lapsed employers to uncover new opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to ensure a smooth and positive employer journey.
  • Maintaining professionalism at all times as the first point of contact for employers.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working with apprenticeships, recruitment, or employer engagement.

  • Ability to provide meaningful insights on employer behaviour, trends, and common challenges.
