Overview

The AI leadership – AI delivery and organisational transformation apprenticeship unit is a new Level 5 programme for employed adults aged 19 and over who are working in leadership roles and need to build stronger capability in the safe and effective delivery of AI-enabled organisational transformation. It is suited to those overseeing implementation of AI and ensuring that AI solutions are integrated effectively into organisational processes and ways of working.

This unit is especially relevant for organisations that have moved beyond early exploration and now need leaders who can help turn AI plans into practical organisational change. It supports better decision-making around implementation, workforce impact, operational risk, compliance, monitoring and communication.

This is not a technical build programme. It is designed for leaders who need to guide AI-enabled change responsibly, support people through transition, manage risk and escalation, and ensure deployed AI systems remain sustainable, compliant and aligned to long-term organisational objectives.

What You'll Learn

You’ll build the knowledge and judgement needed to lead AI-enabled organisational change well, with a strong focus on delivery, workforce impact, governance, monitoring and communication.

  • AI-enabled organisational change: leading delivery of AI-enabled change so solutions remain sustainable and aligned to long-term organisational objectives.
  • Workforce and ecosystem impact: assessing the impact of AI adoption on staff, roles, reskilling, redeployment, job redesign and the wider ecosystem, including suppliers and digitally excluded groups.
  • Organisational AI risk management: implementing monitoring, mitigation and escalation approaches at organisational level.
  • Audit, compliance and security response: understanding audit requirements, regulatory compliance, incident response and security planning.
  • Monitoring deployed AI systems: recognising and responding to issues such as bias, drift, degraded performance and security vulnerabilities.
  • Governance and accountability: defining responsibilities and strengthening accountability for threats, risks, data and cyber security.
  • Human oversight and collaboration: applying principles of human oversight and effective human-AI collaboration.
  • Communication and stakeholder engagement: communicating AI risks and opportunities clearly to non-technical stakeholders and regulators.

Assessment & EPA

Because this is an apprenticeship unit, it does not use the traditional mandatory EPA model used on many full apprenticeships. The minimum assessment requirement is a skills test delivered by Solveway, which the employer then validates to confirm the learner has been successful.

Career Progression

This unit is best positioned as leadership capability development rather than a promise of one fixed job title. It strengthens the skills needed to lead AI-enabled change, manage organisational impact, oversee governance and compliance, and communicate confidently about deployed AI systems and their risks.

Typical progression or application areas could include:

  • AI delivery lead
  • AI transformation lead
  • Digital transformation manager
  • Change or programme lead for AI-enabled implementation
  • Operations leader with responsibility for AI deployment
  • Governance, risk or compliance leadership roles linked to AI adoption
  • Senior leadership roles with oversight of organisational AI delivery and workforce change.
